At the U20 World Wrestling Championships in Bratislava, Hungary’s wrestlers demonstrated impressive skills in the Greco-Roman discipline, coming away with three medals. László Koppány led the Hungarian team by securing a silver medal in the 130kg category. His path to the final was marked by victories over competitors from China, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Egypt. However, in the championship bout, Koppány was defeated 8–0 by Russia’s Ali Ilyasov, who is both the defending world and European champion, thus concluding his campaign with a silver medal.
In the 77kg category, Zalán Toplak, representing the Ferencváros club, clinched a bronze medal. His journey included entering the repechage rounds, where he triumphed over Georgia’s Giorgi Gogelashvili with a decisive 10–2 scoreline. This victory marked Toplak’s first-ever World Championship medal, highlighting a significant achievement in his wrestling career.
Additionally, Petro Zsitovoz contributed to Hungary’s medal tally by securing another bronze in the 67kg category. Zsitovoz faced off against Egypt’s U23 world champion Mohamed Abdelrehim in a placement match. Despite an initial setback, Zsitovoz managed to overturn the deficit and secured an 11–3 victory, demonstrating resilience and skill on the mat.
