Lidl Hungary has made significant strides in expanding its operations by inaugurating a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, marking an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning over 83,000 square meters, stands as Lidl’s largest warehouse in Hungary and is set to play a pivotal role in supplying approximately 70 stores across the region.
The establishment of this logistics hub has generated over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees shortly, reflecting Lidl’s commitment to local employment. Equipped with 194 loading docks and a dedicated 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, the center is designed to handle the efficient distribution of goods. Emphasizing sustainability, the facility incorporates energy-efficient technologies, including a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar panel installation and an innovative system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
Further enhancing its environmental credentials, the site features a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, underscoring Lidl’s dedication to eco-friendly practices. The logistics center is poised to become a linchpin in Lidl’s nationwide supply network, with an impressive capacity to dispatch around 4,500 pallets of goods daily, thereby ensuring consistent product availability across its stores.
Lidl’s presence in Hungary is significant, with 220 stores currently in operation. The company sources nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers, showcasing its support for local industries. The newly opened logistics center is anticipated to bolster Lidl’s continued growth and fortify its domestic operations, aligning with its expansion strategy in the Hungarian market.
