President Trump’s Friday announcement that South Africa will be excluded from the 2026 G20 Summit in Miami has created substantial diplomatic friction. The decision stems from allegations about human rights conditions affecting white farming communities and procedural disputes from the recent Johannesburg summit.
Through his social media statement, Trump described what he characterizes as systematic persecution of Afrikaners and other descendants of European colonizers in South Africa. The President’s account included claims of violence and property confiscation targeting white populations. He accused the South African government of refusing to acknowledge these alleged violations.
The recent G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg proceeded with broad international participation, attracting world leaders including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
